URSH is a Melbourne-based visual artist working in post-graffiti and abstract graffiti. With a background in graphic design and graffiti, he blends street influences with abstract form to make pieces that feel alive and stay with you.
His work grows out of a love for texture and the natural imperfections of the places he paints. He's always chasing new techniques, shapes and ideas, and pushing against the limits of what street art and fine art are supposed to be.
URSH often says:
"Let the wall do the talking."
That idea drives his whole process. He works with a wall’s textures, cracks and rough patches instead of covering them up. He rarely knows exactly how a piece will turn out. Instead, he lets the wall lead, and each mural becomes a conversation between the artist and the space.
Through that back and forth, URSH finds the beauty in a wall’s flaws and turns overlooked corners into places people stop and look. Passersby get an experience, not just a picture. The art catches the eye, but it’s really the wall that gets seen in a new way. URSH simply uncovers its hidden personality, adds his own touch, and becomes part of the space.
URSH started out in the mid-2000s with traditional graffiti, trying everything from illegal street work to legal commissions. After several years he grew frustrated with the limits of his style and felt stuck.
After an eight-year break, he came back in 2019/2020 with a fresh perspective and a wish to break the rules and habits he'd built up. He took a new name, URSH, inspired by a music project, and set off on a path that ignored the conventions he once followed.
Returning to graffiti, he found a scene that had changed. Post-graffiti and abstract graffiti had emerged, and artists were sharing their work openly and confidently. That freedom reignited his passion. Each week he set out to experiment and push boundaries, and his work evolved quickly, bringing recognition and connections around the world.
His art has travelled from Athens to New York and from Amsterdam to Melbourne. Highlights include a show with Mirus Gallery in San Francisco, a collaboration with Four Pillars in Australia, a self-initiated mural in New York City, and a place in the first Post Graffiti exhibition in Europe, at the Stedelijk Museum in Rotterdam.
