Album artwork for Dialectics by People Taking Pictures, created as a mural and then photographed for the cover. The band commissioned the piece with full artistic freedom and one simple brief: an URSH representation of PTP. The answer is a composition built on the band’s initials, broken into circles, triangles and cut planes. Wide white brushstrokes sweep across a black ground, so the letterforms sit somewhere between legible and abstract. Painting the work on a wall gave the artwork a real surface and texture that a digital design could not. The image then carried through to the full release, from cover to orange vinyl. The project shows how a mural practice can translate into album art, branding and product design.
