An artist-initiated mural painted along the side of a heritage building on Station Street. The project began with an approach to the owner, proposing to turn a long, plain side wall into a piece that adds to the streetscape without competing with the building’s period character.
The composition runs the full length of the wall in a rhythm of overlapping, folding planes. Soft sage, mint and aqua build the base, with flashes of coral, red and deep blue cutting through. Rollers, wide brushes and spray paint create dry-brushed edges, sharp angles and soft gradients, so the surface reads like layered paper or shifting light.
The palette was kept fresh and light to sit comfortably with the cream render and heritage details. The mural frames the original windows rather than painting over them, letting the architecture stay part of the work.
The project shows how a mural can be added to a heritage building with care, bringing life to a laneway frontage while respecting the original structure.
